Body Piercings F.A.Q's......

Q. How much does it cost?
A. Our pricelist varies from £20 to £50 for most piercings. Something a bit more unusual may cost you more. This may sound like a lot, but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for! A cheap piercing is not always a good piercing!

Q. What jewellery can I wear in my new piercing?
A. Body piercings are a lot different to ear piercings. You will need to wear a biologically inert metal such as titanium or a man-made material called P.T.F.E. This all sounds a bit boring, but it is not so, there are loads of wicked pieces of jewellery available designed especially for body piercings. Always make sure that any jewellery you purchase has been made with these guidelines in mind. We keep a huge range in stock if you are in doubt as to where to purchase said jewellery. You will need to wear a fairly plain piece of jewellery to begin with to eliminate the risk of snagging and catching. Also they are easier to clean.

Q. How long does a piercing take to heal?
A. This varies from person to person. All sorts of things can increase the healing rate such as the jewellery worn, the health of the individual and a good aftercare routine. For most body piercings, healing times are around three months. Do not be alarmed if you are taking longer, it’s quite common for some people to heal really slowly, its just down to how you are made. A zinc supplement can also improve healing time but is not essential.

Q. What about infection?
A. Infection can occur with any piercing but with a good aftercare routine the risk is greatly reduced. If you think your piercing is doing something it shouldn’t, keep the jewellery in until you have contacted us for advice. Signs to look for - hot & itchy at site of piercing – cloudy yellowy secretion – slight swelling. We are always available for hep & advice regardless of whether you had the piercing done by us.

Q. I’m pregnant! Can I keep my navel piercing?
A. You need to change metal jewellery to P.T.F.E. This is a flexible biologically inert man made material, which will bend as your stomach expands. Metal jewellery tends to reject/grow out during pregnancy.

Q. I’ve got new job and need my piercing to be discreet.
A. We have a range of keepers in metal and plastic for most piercings. These fit into the piercing and are virtually invisible.

Q. Will it hurt?
A. Yes BUT it never hurts as much as you think it will. Prepare yourself by eating well beforehand. It’s a good idea to bring a sugary drink with you: a friend by your side often helps. Once you are at the studio you may have a few minutes to wait for sterilisation of jewellery. If you are nervous try to stay calm and relaxed as this makes the experience better for you. Even those of us with lots of piercings get nervous beforehand!

Q. What shall I wear?
A. Loose comfortable clothing that won’t irritate your piercing is highly recommended for the duration of healing. Low waisted garments for navel piercing are a must, as the jewellery may get caught on waistbands. If you are unsure about anything, please ask us!

Q. Can I wear gold jewellery in my new piercing?
A. We don’t recommend gold unless it is nickel free. We have a selection of Plasma Gold, which is titanium jewellery with a PVD coating. This is the closest to gold in colour we could find. It is perfectly safe for initial and old piercings.

Q. My friends piercing isn’t doing the same as mine!
A. This is perfectly normal, we are all unique individuals, and as such heal at different rates.
